Christa Tobler

Prof. Dr. Christa Tobler

Christa Tobler spent her youth in various areas of Switzerland. She studied law at the Universities of Zurich, Switzerland, and Leiden, the Netherlands where she specialised in European Union law. Her Ph.D. thesis is about Swiss trademark law and her habilitation thesis about indirect discrimination in EC law and in Swiss Federal Law. Christa Tobler spent research periods in Kyoto, Japan (at the Kyoto Comparative Law Institute) and in Florence, Italy (at the European University Institute). She also worked as a clerk at Swiss district court and for a short while as an employee of a law firm. Christa Tobler is presently professor of European Law at the Europa Institute of Basel University where she teaches in the framework of the multidisciplinary Master’s Programme on Advanced European Studies. She also teaches EC law on the postgraduate level at Leiden University, in the Netherlands. Christa Tobler’s special research interest concerns equality as a legal concept, both in the context of economic and of social law.
