Switzerland has long successfully exported and marketed its banks and insurers, its watches and medical technology, its social mediation and the Red Cross. Within a century, Switzerland evolved from one of the poorest countries in Europe to one of the most affluent in the world.
At our School of Business we educate and support, encourage and interact, advise and challenge the potential and current managers, economists and marketers to continue in this prosperous Swiss tradition. Equally, we practise and instill an integral sense of professional ethics and social responsibility.
Internationalisation is our daily business - we import it, we export it and we live it!

FHNW at NAFSA 2010 Over 7000 experts in tertiary education from all over the world participated in this year’s NAFSA conference (Association of International Educators) in Kansas City, USA in June. Prof. Robert Buttery and Prof. Antje Leukens represented the FHNW. Prof Buttery, Head of International Relations, together with a specialist team originating from Canada and Denmark, the well-attended workshop "Building Support for Internationalisation: Educational Travel for Faculty and Administrators" focused on enabling faculty to gather insights into international developments to better qualify them to teach their internationally oriented students. Prof. Buttery heads a project at the School of Business for experienced Canadian academics who teach management at various tertiary levels. CASE (Canadian Academics Studying Europe) will take place again this year for 8 days when participants are toured around Europe visiting organizations, enterprises and universities. Prof Leukens, the Dean of the BSc in Business Administration (International Management) programme, supported Prof Buttery in acquiring further fee waivers or fee-reduced places at further attractive partner universities for all Business School students. The School already has a significant international network which encourages a record number of exchanges each year. The two FHNW representatives furthermore explored lecturer exchange options, new developments in international education and some of the current successful models.

With Cap and Gown: First Master Title Graduation at School of BusinessThe first graduates from the Master of Science programmes which started up two years ago received their titles on 12 March in Basel. In keeping with the international character of the degree programmes, taught entirely in English and with dual degree options, the graduates wore caps and gowns ensuring a colourful ceremony. There were 14 new graduates in total from the MSc in International Management and MSc in Business Information Systems programmes - both of which were among the first to be federally accredited Masters at universities of applied sciences. One graduate, Michael Sitte, commented that he had searched throughout Europe for a suitable course and that the research orientation had been the deciding factor in opting for the MSc in International Management. "The greatest win, however, was the international diversity of fellow students," he said. A total of 18 students from the MBA programme run by the Edinburgh School of Business plus 41 graduates from the Executive Master of Business Administration also graduated in the ceremony held in the Elisabethankirche. |
