Research and Development, Consultancy Services and Continuing Education have one goal at the Institute for Information Systems (IWI): To ensure that the employment of information and communication technology provides a benefit.

Whether in e-business or in knowledge management, during mobile learning or while optimizing processes - over 35 IWI employees solve the problems, which preoccupy enterprises and public administrations.

Applied Research and Development

International research projects and contacts provide our current know-how, from which Swiss enterprises and administrations can directly profit. Projects in information and knowledge management serve the flexible treatment of processes, others the optimization of resources in logistics. In the initiative eXperience we show on the basis of case studies, how e-business concepts are applied in practice. Where electronic business transactions or e-learning concepts are concerned, we operate the exchange among interested specialists. Thus, we transfer knowledge and create at the same time a network, in which we develop our research further.

Continuing Education

What we teach and research appears also in our offer of courses for continuing education: The spectrum reaches from compact courses and seminars over Certificates and Diplomas of Advanced Studies (CAS/DAS) up to two-year master programmes (MAS) in Information Systems. Our offers address themselves to persons, who have already completed a qualified technical training and want to prepare themselves for new challenges as IT specialists or in leading positions. For enterprises the Institute for Information Systems also organizes efficient in-house courses.

Consultancy Service

Enterprises, non-profit organizations and administrations gladly use our consultancy services. Specialists of the Institute for Information Systems help, for example, to develop IT or E-Business strategies, to optimize business processes, to structure enterprise information or to develop concepts for document management.

Co-operation with the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes

Lecturers of the IWI teach their specialist field in the Information-Systems-Bachelor and -Master, but also in nearly all the other undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of the HSW. Besides, the IWI annually passes on far more than one hundred project- and bachelor-theses in Business Economics and Information Systems: The students work on concrete questions on behalf of an enterprise.
